We’re delighted to announce our dissertation prizes for 2024 from The University of Worcester.

Every year we proudly support and present multiple awards such as the ‘Spirit disability sport achievement’, or ‘Spirit Executive Prize’. These are all based on the disability sport subjects – the awards are recognised by the high achievements, hard-work and dedication but also the amount of commitment they have brought to their studies the past years.

The University of Worcester began these awards over 10 years ago creating more awareness of disabilities within sport – did you know about 35-40% of students at University of Worcester have a form of disability? UoW is unique from anywhere else, they offer a range of courses and pathways that nowhere else offers linking to the amount of pride they hold for being fully inclusive. Not forgetting how everything around the university is accessible.

This attracts a large volume of applying candidates at 35 each year, however they only take on 15-20.

Christian Wilson – Awarded the: ‘Willis-Edwards Spirit Disability Sport Academic Prize’

“It is an honour to receive the Willis – Edwards Spirit Disability Sport Academic Prize, and I will treasure this with pride. I have always valued the student experience of disabled people, and tried to ensure that disabled students do have a voice and are listened to. That’s why I decided to title my independent research project (IRP) Disabled Children and Young People’s Experiences in Mainstream Education. When I first got the email saying that I had won, I actually got quite emotional. I hoped I had represented the subject well, and in fact I was awarded Best Presentation for my IRP at the School of Sport and Exercise Science Student Conference”

Stacey Crow – Awarded the: ‘Willis-Edwards Spirit Disability Sport Achievement Prize’

“It was a complete shock to be nominated, to win was a proud moment that I have been recognized for the contributions I’ve been able to make to other uni students and in the community. Having spent the majority of my degree coaching in a wheel chair after a complex surgery in my second year. It allowed me a greater appreciation of how others with long term disabilities navigate their environment on a daily basis. I have a family member with Cerebral Palsy, a friend who’s daughter is Visually impaired and I used to work with a child with hearing loss. I guess I have spent my life surrounded by others who live with different disabilities and through my own frustrations of loss of mobility, teamed with sharing in others challenges I always want to find a way to be a voice and support making changes through sport particularly. Whether that be in inclusive sports practice or inclusivity in Sports venues. We all have a place in this world however we see it, hear it or move in it”

Lenka Koubkova – Awarded the: ‘Spirit Executive Graduation Prize’

“I was absolutely thrilled to receive this prize and recognition. I have never ever expected anything like this considering I am an international student so in all honesty, I was speechless. I was always self-motivated to reach the best results possible but really just for myself and the fact that the university has recognized that and decided to award me was just a cherry on top. I am forever grateful for what opportunities the university has offered me, and how all the staff were always supportive and kind. I couldn’t wish for a better place to fulfill my academic potential”

As a business we cannot express enough how hard these candidates have worked to achieve these amazing awards, you should all be super thrilled with yourselves!
